"Mark Bedell is
a true theater artist with a solid understanding of how to create
realistic fights on stage that are terrifying to watch,
but always in control, so that the audience never feels that
actors are in danger of being harmed. He is patient, and he
complies
with all of a director's choices, only offering advice to the
director when he feels that the advice will make the play come to
life more.
My students love him, and always look forward to his arrival on
the set."

MASC NEWS! Well it's been a heck of a busy spring... I've been traveling all over the country training actors in various forms of combat for film and/or the stage. Next up: Rapier for the Stage and Screen ends on April 13th. On April 14th Mark Bedell flies off to Michigan to be a guest teacher at the world renown RING OF STEEL staged combat school. He will teach two Master Classes covering virtually every area of advanced Staged Combat and an Action Film-making class. Then back to Missouri by April 18th. There'll be just enough time to pack up the "magic" van and the trailer and head out to Minnesota where he is the Writer, Director, Co-Producer and star of the Wiley West Stunt Show (www.ActionEI.com). In September Mark will be Stunt Coordinating THE EIGHTEENTH HOUR in Maine, then it's back to St. Louis for a Broadsword Session which will culminate with all the students playing a role in an episode of the award winning web series THE HUNTED (The Hunted.tv). Believe it or not there's more after that.... but stay tuned. |

AS FEATURED ON
THE T.V. PROGRAM: Video
of our Broadsword Primer here! Coming...
eventually... video of our Spring 2010 Mark is available throughout Missouri to theatre companies, universities, high schools and such as a Fight Director, Technical Director and Director and for film/tv/documentary work as Stunt Coordinator, Weapons Master, Practical FX Coordinator and 2nd Unit Director. |
The Public Theatre in Lewiston is starting up a very exciting theatre "Conservatory" of sorts and has asked Mark to be their Staged Combat Instructor. Due to his duties with the WILD WEST SHOW, he cannot do it; but we've recommended and old friend of Mark's, Angela Bonacasa as a replacement. Angela Fight Directed Mark back in 1999 in a workshop production of the Macbeth-Macduff fight scene that he has never forgotten. It was the first time he ever played Macbeth and all subsequent times have been compared to that one. The summer workshops in Action Film-Making, Advanced Staged Combat and Master Classes are all cancelled... sorry folks.
Mark was booked in Maine for July and August of 2010 for
his 5th Staged Combat Workshop for Heartwood Theater.
He has made recommendations for a replacement but no decisions
have been made yet. |
