THE ACADEMY OF STAGED COMBAT

The Missouri Academy of Staged Combat's re-opening will be postponed indefinately.

We do HOPE to re-open but Fight Director Mark Bedell suffered as serious back injury on 2-8-12 and likley will not be swinging a swortd or a fist for some time. The injury took place while he was building a set for a show... it was NOT stunt or fight related.

Mark Bedell spent most of the last year installing and managing the new PIRATES VOYAGE show in Myrtle Beach, SC. (www.PiratesVoyage.com) This was anything but a normal show. Laced with music, Circ style apparatus and of course lots and lots of staged combat... this 13 million dollar show broke all sorts of records. The show was slated to do 218 performances from June to the end of December 2011. Due to the amazing box office success of the show, they actually did 420 performances in that time. Mr. Bedell managed the crew, the performers, handled payroll and such, trained new hires in staged combat, maintained the aluminum swords, fixed broken props, handled all the paperwork, occasionally had to be an underwater scuba tech and he played the lead role in the show for the main actor's days off.

With all the elements: staged combat, dancing, singing, gymnastics, trapeze, trampoline-wall, Russian swing, aerial net (zfx), spring board diving, sea lions, African cranes, macaws, dogs, ducks, pyrotechnics, fire whip, fire poi, Spanish web, etc... this is (near as anyone can tell) possibly the largest live stunt show in the world. Now that the show is all installed, and is completing it's 1st record breaking season, Mark Bedell has chosen to leave the show. He has respectfully declined his 2012 contract and is moving on to create new shows at Theme Parks and other venues around the world. How do you top the largest live stunt show in the world? Wait and see. There are very exciting things in store!

Mark Bedell

Mark Bedell is a multiple award-winning Fight Director, Stunt Coordinator, Director, Playwright, Screenwriter and Actor. Mark is a 30+ year veteran in the entertainment industry. His first taste of acting was in 1970. His first Directing credit came in 1979 and he did his first professional show in 1981. Mark has worked as a performer in Amusement Parks from coast to coast including several years on the exclusive UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD STUNT TEAM. Currently, Mark trains actors, would-be actors and stunt people to fight for the stage and screen. He Fight Directs for Theatre, Opera, Stunt Shows, Features and Documentaries all over the country.

He is a prolific playwright having written more than 20 plays that have been produced all over the country and internationally. Mark toured nationally in many MANY theatre productions for over 25 years doing nearly 6,000 live performances most of which he also Wrote, Produced and Directed.

Mark has also become a sought after Stunt Coordinator and Weapons Master having worked on many films for the Sci-fi Channel, Lifetime, History, National Geographic, Showtime, SPIKE, Discovery, FOX Sports, the Learning Channel and much more including many award winning independent films.

Mark's long and variegated career has taken him all across the country and even to international destinations for shows and film shoots.
